Everything you need to know about Day 2 and Day 8 Covid-19 testing

What is Day 2 and 8 testing?

Day 2 and 8 testing is required by the UK Government if you are arriving in the UK from overseas.

All international arrivals to England must quarantine for 10 days, unless you/your job is exempt.

Those who are exempt may need to take a lateral flow test on days 2, 5 and 8 after their return. Further information on exemptions and lateral flow tests can be found here.

It is a mandatory requirement for everyone arriving in the UK, unless exempt, to take a Covid-19 test on or before day 2 of your self-isolation period, and then another test on or after day 8.

Agilis Health can provide Day 2 and Day 8 testing to international arrivals travelling from countries that do not have a travel ban (non ‘red list’ countries).

What do I need to know?

Before an individual travels to the UK, they must:

Test before travel — Take a coronavirus (COVID-19) test and get a negative result during the 3 days before you travel.

Book Day 2 and Day 8 testing — Book and pay for a travel test package, which will include COVID-19 tests to be taken on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 of the quarantine period.

Complete a passenger locator form — Complete a passenger locator form within 48 hours of departure with details of where they will quarantine on arrival and the travel test package booking reference number.

How will Agilis Health help?

We can support you by arranging delivery of your testing kit to your place of quarantine. Our testing packs include all returns packaging and prepaid return postage labels.

When you receive your packs, you can organise a video call with one of our remote nurses, they’ll help guide you through collecting your sample.

Once you’ve returned your test to us, you will receive a notification with your test result as soon as your sample has been analysed in the lab.

We can send your results certificate to the email address of your choice.

Results are normally issued 12 to 18 hours after receipt at the lab for analysis. Some results are processed within 12 hours – however these times are not guaranteed.

Please note that there is a fast-track service available, however we advise you book and plan your tests as soon as you know when you’ll be travelling to the UK and where you’ll be quarantining.

What happens if I test negative?

Current government guidance states that even if you test negative for Covid-19 on day 2 or day 8, you must continue to self-isolate for the full 10 days.

The only way you can shorten your isolation period is if you complete a Test to Release and your results is negative. We can also help organise and provide you with a Test to Release test.

What happens if I test positive for Covid-19?

On receiving a positive test, you must self-isolate for 10 days from the day after your test date, even if you do not have symptoms of Covid-19. People who you live with or are travelling with should also self-isolate for 10 days.

If you received a positive test result for the test taken on or before day 2, you do not need to take the day 8 test.

If you’ve travelled as a group, all group members should also self-isolate, however they still need to take their day 8 test.

If you do test positive, you may be contacted by the UK government for contact tracing and to check that you and those who you live with or are travelling with, are self-isolating.

You must not travel, including to leave the UK, during self-isolation
